The cemetery has three areas, all surrounded by aged trees, ancient bushes, and beautiful flowers when in season.

It is a garden for gardeners, and many friends of the cemetery come just for the joy of getting their hands dirty in consecrated soil. The Columbarium is a standout, sitting high on a 1,000-year-old solid stone wall; it faces the Chapel at ground level and shares the hill with the memorial to the first Walker Chapel that was hand-built by the first Pastor. It’s worth seeing just to see it, and, of course, the many free public museums and art galleries here in the Nation’s Capital, America’s Hometown.

The Columbarium was built with permanence in mind. While no contractor can promise a structure will last for centuries, the goal was simple: build it as strong and enduring as possible and serve as a special Family gathering place.
