Many say they are historic, but the entire grounds of Walker Chapel are a registered Arlington County, Virginia Historic District.

We have a rich history going back into the 1800’s when individuals came forth, gathered in faith, and built our Chapel. Close inspection, however, takes us back even further. The original Walker Burial Ground was used long before it was named. There are uninscribed granite stones stuck in the ground with the skinny end up, marking the grave of a loved one. The family knew the grave by the shape and edges of the stone. Unfortunately, that family history has been lost, but we still have the stones and have plans to feature them in the yet-to-be-built Walker’s Corner Meditation Garden.

There are always works in progress to enhace and beautify the grounds.  You are welcome at any time to visit and to help us by getting your hands into history.

Historic cemeteries preserve memory in ways that private storage or scattering cannot. A properly engraved niche becomes part of a family's continuing history. At Walker Chapel, each physical niche has a companion digital niche called The Wall of Memories where the family can upload photographs, videos, important documents, and memories to the Cloud for sharing across generations.

  Creating a Family Legacy in a Historic Cemetery

The Columbarium at Walker Chapel Cemetery is a place to keep ashes permanently. It becomes a place to visit and for family gatherings of remembrance. They are on consecrated grounds of great beauty and peace. The cemetery is in the Walker Chapel Historic District, with the Chapel itself, which is a classical white church on the hill.

  The Story of the Cherry Tree

No one knows the exact moment when the great tree began its quiet reign at the center of Walker Chapel Historic Cemetery, its sheltering limbs stretched wide, embracing those laid to rest beneath its gentle shade. Perhaps it has stood for fifty years, or maybe closer to a century. Yet, with a little research, we believe we have uncovered its origin.

The history of the Chapel starts over 150 years ago. One the 100th anniversary the congregation wrote the "Blue Book", a multichapter pamphlet spaning the fascinating history and growth of the Chapel.
